Getting Wifi Going on an eeePC701

Forum thread started by plumtreed on Wed, 2011-07-27 23:30

I am trying to get wifi running on Alpha3 in a Asus eeePC701SDX. Researching these forum pages I was encouraged to see in a few threads that wifi in the 701 does work for some and in a few cases is 'out-of-the-box'!

I am able to get a wired connection.

I have followed the wireless instructions but when I run ifconfig only loop and wired appear. My card is a Realtek, RTL8187SE(rev22) and this appears in Applications>Devices. I am aware that the success stories could involve eeePC701s with different cards and that my card may not be supported........there are 'millions' of 701s out there and there must be a few variations.

This card does not appear in the list of drivers available in the guide.

Am I missing a step and can anybody offer some guidance?

Virtual Box - Boot hung

Forum thread started by admin on Tue, 2011-07-26 23:32

This is my very first time attempting to use Haiku.

I am running the latest Virtual Box on Centos, it's running FreeBSD, Ubuntu, and Windows just fine.

I used the vmdk image, when I couldn't get anywhere I tried the iso install.
It installed cleanly but when I rebooted, I ends up in the same place.

An Initial backscreen screen comes up with a Haiku logo and 7 icons below it.
No mouse cursor appears.

No keyboard or mouse actions seems to have any effect. I have let it sit a day like this with no effect.

This screen appears instantly when booting and just never changes.

What's going on? do I need to do something? or is it broken?

folder 'RECYCLED' on flashdrive

why haiku always create folder 'RECYCLED' on flashdrive?
it's kinda annoying to manually delete that folder.

Is it possible to 'cold' boot a eeepc701 from a USB stick?

Forum thread started by plumtreed on Sun, 2011-07-24 23:52

-I have installed to a 4GB USB drive after booting the live cd and everything went according to the instructions. I am using Alpha3 on an Asus eeePC701SDX.

The problem is that the USB will not 'cold' boot by itself. I can boot to the USB drive by withdrawing the live CD during the boot process and Haiku works from the USB pefectly from there.

I expected it to boot from the USB drive without other intervention during the process. The bios boot order is correct but produces this error message: error: unknown filesystem
grub rescue>

Do I have to make a boot point in the partition or setup a boot process??
