Small translator problem

Forum thread started by free10 on Wed, 2011-06-22 01:15

Installed alpha 3 over my alpha 2 install on my drive and jpg's are no longer recognized saying no translator for them. Really weird since when I used it live CD style first there was no problem. Going to try later tonight manually replacing the translator file by copying and pasting.--Dwight

Bootable USB

Forum thread started by DFergATL on Tue, 2011-06-21 23:30

I must be doing something very, very wrong. I am trying to create make an 8gig USB stick my Haiku drive. My first try was to run the install onto the USB, after having setup the partition. It installed, but would not boot.

Second try was to use Windows to write the anyboot image to the usb. Now it boots but it is only 690meg and the rest of the drive is empty. This would be ok, and I could simply make the remaining space a partiton to put files. But, i want to install some optional packages and don't have the room on the partition I have to install them onto.

So, how to I make a bootable 8gig USB drive in Haiku? Maybe I setup the partition wrong or something.

HELP!!

Install on Dell Latitude D420

Forum thread started by DFergATL on Tue, 2011-06-21 20:04

Ok, strange things happening here....

If I boot to live CD it will almost get done loading the desktop and will KDL. If I boot to the installer then use the task manager to "restart Desktop" I get a fully functional desktop. Right up until I kill the installer then I get KDL. If I leave the installer screen running no KDL and the desktop seems to work fine.

Installing to HD. I can setup the Hiaku partition, and start the installer. I get HD activity and CD activity. But nothing from the progress bar.... Have been waiting for an hour now, and there is no end in sight.

how to: multiboot

Forum thread started by tuttoweb on Tue, 2011-06-21 07:53

Hi to all,
I wanna be a new user for this OS, since it is quite minimal as well as it seems to have a lot of potential.
I'm a brandnew user, thus I dunno anything regarding Haiku.

This is my partition scheme:

/dev/sda1 * 1 5100 40960000 83 Linux
/dev/sda2 5100 11474 51200000 7 HPFS/NTFS
/dev/sda3 11474 60802 396224513 5 Extended
/dev/sda5 60292 60802 4096000 82 Linux swap / Solaris
--> /dev/sda6           58380       60292    15360000   83  Linux <--
/dev/sda7 11474 58380 376767488 83 Linux

I wanna install it into the highlighted partition and then I want configure grub in order to boot it. I read something regarding extended partition, but I read with multoboot there shouldn't be problems

I installed it in Virtualbox: how can I deny the installation program to install its own bootloader?

thank you in advance

Haiku alpha 3 - USB mouse does not work (solved)

Forum thread started by Garjala on Mon, 2011-06-20 18:09

I just downloaded alpha 3 and tried to boot my second computer with it. I was surprised that it did not boot before I disable IDE DMA. Even after that USB mouse does not work.

Computer includes following hardware:
CPU: Intel C2D
RAM: 4GB
Motherboard: Abit AB9 Pro (Intel 965 chipset)

Any ideas about how to enable usb mouse?
