Lenovo y560 support

Forum thread started by Ryan Woods on Thu, 2011-05-12 13:46

Hey Everyone,

I am currently using a Lenovo Y560 laptop. I tried installing a .iso image onto my computer but every time it tries to "lite up" the chip image, the kernal debugger pops up. I then tried to use the .anyboot file and when I boot up my laptop, it does not detect that the cd is even there. What should I do? Is Haiku even supported on Lenovo Y560?

Play Mp3 from seperate partition

Forum thread started by rick100 on Sat, 2011-05-07 21:16

Well, what happened was I noticed the media player app and I thought it would be great to listen to music while surfing the net. So I tried to transfer all my music to the Haiku partition. Then I found out I didn't have enough room. So I ended up mounting the partition to the desktop. When I tried to play the music I had from the windows partition, I couldn't play it. The media player is working fine because I did a sample on it and it worked as long as the file was from the haiku partition. I also noticed the file on haiku partition was an MP3, but on the Windows partition, it was a script. Can anyone help?

Sis 630/ Sis 305 VGA support??

Forum thread started by hikaru on Thu, 2011-05-05 18:45

I'm using Haiku as the only OS on one of my systems, but it has an sis 630 chipset. I searched for a video driver for the sis 305 IGP but I had any luck, it works in vesa mode but, the GUI is very slow and for example playing a video is dificult withought 2d aceleration, it misses various frames and has continuous jumps.
Does anybody knows about a driver for this GPU??

Microsoft .NET Framework

Forum thread started by purplewhiteman on Wed, 2011-05-04 19:21

I'm currently running Fedora 14 but even with the aid of Wine, it cannot run all Windows programs. I thought to get around this by loading ReactOS as it is apparently - like Haiku - neither a Windows nor a Linux OS but likewise cannot run all Windows programs. Hopefully someone in the forum can advise whether Haiku will work for me or not.

An issue I encountered with ReactOS is the following when trying to run a particular software designed for Windows after copying it over from another drive:

.NET Required
This setup requires the .NET Framework v2.0. Please download and install the .NET Framework v2 and run this setup again. Do you want to download the framework now? YES, NO

Of course I chose YES and absolutely nothing happened but I should mention also that I cannot connect to the internet with ReactOS either as the 'Device Installation' screen appears looking for the ethernet controller. Apparently ReactOS is really not ready for prime time and still in alpha stage 10 years into its development from what I understand.

The software download page is:
http://www.openecry.com/ibportal/pages/livedownload_open.cfm?WLID=87

It says the following:
EZTrader LIVE
System Requirements & Download
Required Item Recommended
Operating System - Windows XP SP2 and up
- Windows 7 supported
- 1 GB RAM and up
Software .NET Framework 2.0 SP1 or higher
Installing .NET Framework

* To manually check it your system has Microsoft.NET Framework
o Select "Start" from your desktop menu, then "Control Panel" and locate "Microsoft .NET Framework" within "Add or Remove Programs".
* Download the Microsoft .NET Framework for 32-bit computers here
* Download the Microsoft .NET Framework for 64-bit computers here

I was advised 'forget it. .Net will never run on ReactOS, no matter how much time and work you invest.
You'll need a proper MS product for this; nothing else will do'.

Does anyone think it will run on Haiku? Is .NET Framework 2.0 supported or am I just wasting my time trying to get EZTrader to run on Haiku?

Many thanks to anyone who can advise.

eeepc701 wireless

Forum thread started by vader on Mon, 2011-04-25 09:39

Hi all,

sorry for yet another "can't connect wireless" post, but......

I have an eeepc701, wireless with 128bit WEP and hidden ESSID, running r41280 gcc4 hybrid. I can run ifconfig list and see all the wireless in my neighbourhood. I type ifconfig join . All seems good. Tried network prefs, network applet (both dhcp and static), ifconfig auto-config, ifconfig 192.168.0.42, all to no avail. The router doesn't list it in the DHCP leases (obviously), and I can't see any activity. Ping reports no route to host - tried manually adding, still no good.

Am I doing something wrong? I have read all the wireless posts and the docs I could find - this was previously working fine with setwep. Should I put the ifconfig into the local boot script? Would that help the network prefs?

Cheers,
Jeff
