Haiku under Hyper-V Server R2

Forum thread started by forart.it on Fri, 2010-12-17 09:14

I just installed the "freeware" Hyper-V Server R2 (http://www.microsoft.com/hyper-v-server/) on a blank machine and tried to install the latest Haiku CD GCC4 nightly in a VM.

The VM starts but freezes @ boot screen after turn on the last icon (the rocket).

Any ideas ?

EDIT: i forgot to post the link to vtCommander, useful for who wanna try Hyper-V Server without an external client -> http://vtcommander.com/Products/vtCommander/

Browser libqgenericbearer.so error

Forum thread started by paulfxh on Mon, 2010-12-13 14:08

I've seen some very good reports of the Arora browser in a recent post to this forum and in another to Haikuware. However, when I tried out Arora 0.11.0 in both R1A2 and r39792, although there's a lot to like about it, on my computer it crashes so frequently as to be almost unusable.
Yet the first of the above links rates it as being "stable".
When it crashes, in either R1A2 or r39792, the debugger invariably provides the following as the final part of the output:
Loaded symbols for /boot/common/add-ons/Qt/plugins/bearer/libqgenericbearer.so [tcsetpgrp failed in terminal_inferior: Invalid Argument]
I also tried Arora 0.10.2 in r39792 and this crashed just as frequently with the same gdb output.
Additionally, the QtWeb browser gave the same performance and gdb information when I ran it in r39792.
Perhaps I'm missing an essential library?
Anybody know what might be the problem here?

How to copy graphics driver from Nightly to R1A2?

Forum thread started by paulfxh on Wed, 2010-12-08 21:12

I'm running Haiku R1A2 on a Dell Desktop with a nVidia GeForce 7300 LS gfx card. Although my monitor supports resolutions up to 1920x1080, the best resolution I could get with Haiku was 1650x1050 using the nVidia TNT/GF driver from Haikuware.
Just the other day, I installed haiku-nightly-r39742-x86gcc2hybrid on another partition on the same machine and was surprised (and very pleased) to immediately get a 1920x1080 resolution without having to search around for drivers.
However, as I know that nightlies may not be stable, I wanted to copy whatever is the appropriate graphics driver from the nightly to R1A2 so that I could have the higher resolution in the more stable R1A2.
I've copied all the gxf drivers from /boot/system/add-ons/kernel/drivers/bin on the nightly to the same directory in R1A2. However, this made no difference to the available resolutions.
Any clues where I should be looking?

Freeze on install

Forum thread started by Liam Shepard on Wed, 2010-12-08 05:24

I recently burned a disc image using imgburn and verified it. The CD boots and I see the Haiku splash screen. After I see this screen I watch the icons light up and then it all freezes. I have tried rebooting and holding down the Shift key and selecting boot from CD. At the moment the laptop does have Windows XP on it. I had planned on installing directly over the partition containing XP. I made a bootable USB drive that had 2GB of space. So I should be able to install to that. Regardless, it still freezes on boot. If I let Windows XP boot I can play an audio CD in the disc drive so it seems to work. Any ideas on how I can get Haiku to finish loading?

any help appreciated

Mike

thanks for everybody's help so far... (and about the networking...)

Forum thread started by ou on Sun, 2010-12-05 22:29

when an os says "alpha" i never expect wireless support. ironically, i may have to rely on what support haiku has for wireless to get it on the network.

i set up another machine- the laptop wasn't likely to boot, i looked for a way to turn of pnp but i saw no such setting. everyone was so friendly and helpful that i decided to keep trying, dug a machine i really didn't want to mess with (not to mention i think i tried it before!) out of storage and stuck a drive in it. anyboot is booting; i still got to try the no pnp tip on this one, so thanks again.

in short, it's running haiku though ifconfig can only see loopback- no eth anywhere.

i also looked at system, then prefs, network- it can't find any devices to setup either. any networking suggestions welcome, obviously i'll try playing with some other things, check out the user guide, and see what else i can make this thing do. thanks, everybody. (oh and python is working great, i'm thrilled it's on here.)
