Strange USB behaviour in MacBook (enable USB polling)

Forum thread started by desert_eagle on Thu, 2010-07-15 21:22

Hi, I installed haiku to a partition on my macbook 2,1. Built-in touchpad and keyboard don't work, (but this is a known issue) so i have to use an external usb mouse and keyboard. The strange thing is that i can use them only at once, because only one usb port works well (the one nearer the front). If i connect the mouse to the other port it lags and it's unusable, same thing for the keyboard. If i connect them to the first usb port instead, they work perfectly.
That's annoying, because all the others devices seem to work without any issue (it also connects automatically to my neighbor's unencrypted wireless network :D ) and i really wanted to use Haiku on real hardware (it's very fast, even much faster than OSX!!)
Is there any solution for this?

Unable to use mouse or keyboard from anyboot image

Forum thread started by 2ck on Thu, 2010-07-15 19:26

I dd'd the anyboot image to disk and it boots up fine, but I can't move the cursor, click, or interact with my keyboard. Honestly, I wasn't sure what to do with the anyboot image; is there even documentation on this?

No Sound on my ICH3

Forum thread started by Ventajou on Thu, 2010-07-15 00:40

Hi!

I've finally decided to try Haiku on real hardware; and boy am I impressed! It's kind of like when I first tried BeOS and it felt so quick and smooth. Great job guys.

The computer I'm using is an older Thinkpad A30 (PIII, Mobile Radeon...) and it works great overall. I haven't tried using a WIFI card yet but I think I'll wait a couple of months for that since it looks like great things are coming.

One thing that is not working for me though is the sound. It seems that the audio chip is detected because I see an AUICH device and I can select it for output. However if I get a sample .wav file on the internet and try to play it, nothing happens. I added the open sound driver and then I get an ICH3 device I can select for output but the same thing happens: no sound. Can anybody help me troubleshoot the issue?

Thanks!

Unable to boot from SD Card

Forum thread started by mjmcghee on Mon, 2010-07-12 12:45

I have created an SD boot card for Haiku using the Anyboot image (after renaming the image type to .img)

When trying to boot the PC from this SD card the splash screen starts but 'hangs' before the 'silicone chip' icon - which does not illuminate.
I have tried several times and have let the boot process stay there for many minutes (more than 30min) but the system gets no further.

System is an Asus P5K-SE motherboard, 2G of RAM, Intel E8400 Core 2 Duo processor.

Any help would be appreciated.

Alpha 2 on Eee 900

Forum thread started by BryanLunduke on Wed, 2010-07-07 18:40

Is it possible to run Alpha 2 on a Eee 900 currently?

I'm looking to do a review of Alpha 2 and would love to be able to run it on this netbook as part of that review.

Currently I am attempting to boot from a usb cd drive (cd burned from the official alpha 2 iso) and it hangs on the fourth boot icon.

Any thoughts?

Fresh Haiku install doesn't boot

Forum thread started by XSource on Wed, 2010-07-07 02:31

I tried installing Haiku on an old DELL desktop I've had lying around for a while. The install went alright, but after rebooting the computer it complained that there was nothing to boot and kept requesting bootable media. Anyone know about this? Could the computer just not be able to handle Haiku?

RAM Confusion

Forum thread started by stellarpower on Mon, 2010-07-05 22:03

Hello there,

I've just upgraded my motherboard, and I'm a little confused about FSBs, RAM, etc. My memory is 1333Mhz. According to the data, my Core 2 Quad has a FSB of 1066Mhz. I think I understood from somewhere that when the multiple of the RAM speed is the same as the multiple of the FSB speed, the pair work best. So, as 1333 / 4 = 3333. Am I right in thinking that setting the FSB speed at 333, which, in the lets me choose a DRAM speed of 1333 in the BIOS, will give me the best performance, even thoguh 1333 is greater than the rated 1066 mhz? If not, please could you correct me.

Thanks.

Confused- :p
