USB boot from Installer ?

Forum thread started by preroll on Sat, 2010-07-03 21:49

Hi,

I can boot my USB pen using the method of writing the anyboot img to the pen (win32diskimager).
But I can't boot the pen if using the other method, i.e booting Haiku from another drive and using the Installer to the pen drive.
I really wish to use up the available space on the pen (the 650mB on the anuboot img is not really enough).

Is there any way I can copy what I need from the boot sector of the anyboot img to the bootsector of the other method ?
Or
Is there any app that can resize the partition of the anyboot img ?

Webpositive missing symbol be_catalog

Forum thread started by thetick1234 on Sat, 2010-07-03 05:28

With r37340 when I launch webpositive r426 I see an error window with Missing symbol:be_catalog. Same version of webpositive worked fine with a haiku build from a few days back. Am I missing a package that contains the be_catalog function?

Semi-Failed Haiku Install - Strange Problems - "How do I do this correctly?"

Forum thread started by player2 on Fri, 2010-07-02 14:35

I posted here about four months ago with problems getting Haiku to run smoothly on an old laptop. Well, I've acquired a new laptop since then (as well as a new work laptop) and tested Haiku on it last night. Running from the CD was slick, fast, and fun. I could connect to the internet right away (no setup), I could scroll using two fingers on the track pad, and everything seemed fine.

I decided to install it on the main Windows partition, since my work computer is the only place I need Windows anymore. The BE File System initialization and Haiku install finished without a hiccup. But when I restarted, the computer still tried to boot into Windows and thought something was wrong with the file system. I rebooted and got into Haiku using the CD, and it started fine, but I could no longer connect to the internet or use two-finger scrolling on the track pad. At the end of the night, I let Windows do a recovery (since I luckily left that partition alone), so now it's sitting there with a blank slate, waiting to do this right.

I can navigate around a computer pretty well, but a lot of this is over my head. I don't know where I went wrong.

Was I supposed to format the main partition first? Honestly, I thought the BE initializer or Haiku installer would do that for me.

How does the computer decide which partition to boot from? I was obviously mistaken to think it would boot from the primary partition.

Why wasn't the WiFi working anymore, or the track pad?

Creating image ... Error: couldn't open file /dev/sdc2 (Read-only file system)

I'm trying to compile/build haiku from R1/alpa2. I have been able to do so from Ubuntu 10.04 but not Haiku.. In the UserBuildConfig file I have this:

# Quick start file for UserBuildConfig. Copy it and uncomment and edit the
# lines you want. See UserBuildConfig.ReadMe for details.

# Optional package OpenSSH needs this variable set
HAIKU_IMAGE_HOST_NAME = "TEST" ;

# Add these optional packages

switch $(HAIKU_BUILD_PROFILE) {
case "disk" : {
AddOptionalHaikuImagePackages Development ;
}

case "vmware" : {
HAIKU_IMAGE_SIZE = 900 ;
}

}

In DriveSetup application the drive/partition I'm trying to build to is: /dev/disk/ata/2/master/1
The drive that I'm building Haiku on is: /dev/disk/ata/0/master/3
Before I started the build command I did in terminal;

chmod o+r /dev/disk/ata/2/master
chmod o+rw /dev/disk/ata/2/master/1

I start the build with:

~/develop/haiku/haiku/generated.x86gcc2> jam -q @disk

When the process gets near the end I get this:

BuildHaikuImage1 /dev/sdc2

Creating image ...

In UserBuildConfig I first tried: DefineBuildProfile disk : disk : "/dev/sda2" ; because that is what gpartd showed it as in linux but that got the same error.
Can someone please help me?

Hardware Compatibilty List?

Forum thread started by macsociety on Tue, 2010-06-29 16:27

I thought I saw a link to one but I just can't find it.

Is there a computer and hardware compatibility list for Haiku system needs? Other than the small FAQ snippet about Pentium III, I can't find anything else.

I would like to build my own Intel based system using modern i7 chip and wondered if Haiku works with the newest CPUs and motherboards.
