Hard Drive Storage - Interesting problem

Forum thread started by linuxluvr on Tue, 2010-06-29 01:15

I am wonderring if this is a bug and may need to be posted in the developer forum. If so, please advise.

Here is what is happening. I have Haiku installed on an 11gig partition - dual booted with linux. It boots and everything works perfectly except for one small problem. The storage space decrease for no apparent reason. I just did a fresh install of A2 last night. after the install it said the OS was using 609mb and that I had 10gigs free. Without installing or downloading anything I rebooted and the OS now said it was taking 4GB? Same thing today, I rebooted and now the OS is using 7.2GB? So I wonder if there is a file responsible to identify the storage space used and available that is getting updated incorrectly or something? Any ideas? The space seem to be just disappearing after each reboot and nothing more. Any tests I can perform to troubleshoot? I appreciate any suggestions. Thanks

Trying to boot Haiku from a USB 'thumb drive'..doesn't work????

Forum thread started by plumtreed on Sat, 2010-06-26 08:29

I have followed the instructions and it appears that I have successfully loaded Haiku Alpha2 onto a 4GB 'thumb drive' but I can't get it to boot!

I am writing this from the 'ISO' cd which is painfully slow but it all seems to work. I have also tried to use the cd to boot the 'thumb drive' but that did not work either. The thumb drive blinked a few times but then went silent.

I installed the OS from within the Haiku ISO.

I am running an Acer5315, Celeron 560 32bit which is really a very 'middle-of-the-road' laptop, nothing too challenging for any OS.

I have done some forum research but come up with things that are pretty dated so I was wondering what new ideas are there for booting a USB thumb drive???

What hardware would you recommend for compatability with Haiku going foward?

I have decided to build a Haiku box. So far I've picked an Atom D510 motherboard w/processor. Adding a mITX case, 500Gb sata2 hard drive and 2Gb DDR2 ram, it will cost me only $255. I noticed that the motherboard was in the hardware database, but audio didn't work. The sound cards in the hardware database are kind of pricey. I don't want to double my cost, just to add a sound card. Would an SB AudigySE 7.1 work? I can get one from the same source http://www.europa.com/~enu/ for $32.

How to get WebPositive to work with VMWare Fusion on OS X

Forum thread started by macsociety on Wed, 2010-06-23 16:35

Any trick to get WebPositive or any Internet apps to work on a virtual machine using VMWare Fusion on OS X? I am on the newest Haiku VM that has WebPositive but it appears to not tag onto the OS X internet settings to get on the net.

Wireless challenges

Forum thread started by aliver on Fri, 2010-06-18 20:17

I've got Haiku A2 on my IBM Thinkpad T42. The OS sees the Atheros wifi card, but the problem seems to be that it jumps onto the first wireless network it sees. In my case, that's some local ripoff AT&T thing. I'm trying to use MAC filtering + a hidden SSID on my wifi access point and I know it's working fine because I have a number of other devices working and I have this same laptop connecting via another OS on another partition (NetBSD). At this point I have two questions:

1. How can I set the network name I want to connect to (SSID, NWID, or whatever Haiku calls it)
2. How can I make that come up every time I boot?
3. How can I make the wifi interface primary rather than come up on the intel wireless pro card (or will it always come up on the wifi by default?)

Thanks in advance for any assistance, folks.

Question concerning video display

Forum thread started by wove on Thu, 2010-06-17 02:42

According to the screen perf application I am using an Intel Extreme Graphics 2 (i855G) driver. That matches the hardware I have which is an Intel 82852/82855 GM/GME. This card drives the 1024X768 LCD in the Panasonic CF-29.

The screen looks nice and everything works as it should except the screen is offset downward about 10 pixels. This also means that about 10 pixels of the screen fall off the bottom of the screen. This is not a big issue, but there are times when the bottom item of a contextual menu for instance falls out of view.

Is there anyway to adjust the screen and move it up?

Thanks for your help
