2. Write your quote or write a new post
3. Select your signature in the menu bar and add it.

Common Haiku search tag at Twitter ?

Forum thread started by Octopus on Mon, 2014-03-17 09:21

Is there a common Twitter search tag for selecting tweets related to Haiku OS ?
Searching simply for #haiku does not seem to be sufficiently specific for this.
Establishing such a common search tag could convince interested people, that
the scene around BeOS / Zeta / Haiku today still is somehow alive ...

Latest Forum Post Module

Forum thread started by kvdman on Thu, 2014-02-20 07:19

There's a module for the latest forum posts on the website's frontpage. When you click on a topic it brings you to the article/post. It would be nice if the latest forum posts module was also available on the articles/posts.. I always return to the homepage to see the remaining posts where instead the module could show on the articles/posts as well...

thx

DPI Settings in Screen preferences

Forum thread started by urbas on Tue, 2014-01-21 09:30

It would be great if one could change the dpi of the screen, like in Windows or Linux Xorg, because on a high-res display screens gui elements are very small and unreadable. I know that this can be done by increasing the size of fonts and icons but I think a better thing to was to change the dpi of the screen.

Opus audio for Haiku

Forum thread started by davefilms on Mon, 2014-01-20 05:33

Opus is a totally open, royalty-free, highly versatile audio codec. Opus is unmatched for interactive speech and music transmission over the Internet, but is also intended for storage and streaming applications. It is standardized by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) as RFC 6716 which incorporated technology from Skype's SILK codec and Xiph.Org's CELT codec.
Technology

Opus can handle a wide range of audio applications, including Voice over IP, videoconferencing, in-game chat, and even remote live music performances. It can scale from low bit-rate narrowband speech to very high quality stereo music. Supported features are:

Bit-rates from 6 kb/s to 510 kb/s
Sampling rates from 8 kHz (narrowband) to 48 kHz (fullband)
Frame sizes from 2.5 ms to 60 ms
Support for both constant bit-rate (CBR) and variable bit-rate (VBR)
Audio bandwidth from narrowband to fullband
Support for speech and music
Support for mono and stereo
Support for up to 255 channels (multistream frames)
Dynamically adjustable bitrate, audio bandwidth, and frame size
Good loss robustness and packet loss concealment (PLC)
Floating point and fixed-point implementation

You can read the full specification, including the reference implementation, in RFC 6716. An up-to-date implementation of the Opus standard is also available from http://www.opus-codec.org/.

Support for Xiph codecs

Forum thread started by davefilms on Mon, 2014-01-20 05:20

Please, Please... allow native support for FLAC, Ogg Vorbis, Ogg Opus, Theora and the next generation video codecs. This should be a no brainer because Xiph codecs are free. Opus is better than AAC audio. Vorbis is better than MP3 audio. Also allow Lame to be downloaded for compatibility.
