'Single as double' click option.

Forum thread started by Meanwhile on Sun, 2007-06-10 19:53

Hi,
There's a BeOS app. -called UniversalScroller- that allows users to set their mouseclick preferences.
Handy for those who prefer to have a left click function as a left double click, for example to reduce the risk of getting RSI.
In Windows there's an option within the OS itself (and has been there since at least Windows 98, AFAIK).
Beside the fact that UniversalScroller doesn't function in Haiku now, I think it would be a good idea to have Haiku provide (some of) UniversalScroller's 'click options' in its preferences section.

Cheers,

Meanwhile

About Window Implementation

Forum thread started by Katisu on Sun, 2007-06-10 00:51

This is a carry over discussion from a mailing-list. Trying to avoid a lengthy discussion on the mailing list. I was discussing how the current method that "About Application" windows are used does not properly match usage behavior. I believe in the idea presented in Cooper's "About Face 2.0" that "About Application" windows should contain a short description about the application and its capabilities. Credits, copyright, and support information would be in a renamed window like "Identity Information".

This information could become quite extensive...
The help/tutorial files would be the right place for that IMO.

The argument against this is it would take too long to find the information.

webcam driver

Forum thread started by lxstoian on Thu, 2007-05-31 15:31

Came across a few months ago over this webcam driver for linux http://mxhaard.free.fr/index.html.
It supports around 244. Under Suse 9.2 it saw my webcam without any troubles and I also don't have a very common webcam (kinstone).Even the video quality is good, being comparable to the one under windows.
So is there any way to port it for Haiku?
If R1 had support out of the box for most webcams out there it would be quite a big feature attracting many users that use video chat.

Hello BE and Haiku world!

Hello BE and Haiku world! My name is Jayson Leys. I am a n00b to BE (I can't install it natively and VMWARE is great and all, but it's just not the same) I have an amd64 (s939) you see...so I'm pretty much stuck with Zeta.

Anywho, I am writing this post to show everyone something I wrote that may or may not be of interest to everybody. I'm just not sure where to put it, so I'll put it in haiku suggestion box discussion. If it is too Off topic, I'll move it to off topic.

emuxki drivers

I'd like to see the options to swap the front and rear inputs from this driver. Like in the www.kxproject.com drivers. It does allow for better sound quality and makes life easier for us dual booters.

An explanation as to why they allow this can be found here

Combine mailing list and forum

Forum thread started by brewin on Wed, 2007-05-16 22:14

I've been lurking since the beginning and just within the last few months signed up here and joined the mailing list. I've noticed that Haiku newcomers are more likely to post to the forum and regulars are more likely to post to the mailing list. I wondered if anyone had considered combining the two. One example of a combined mailing list and forum is Ruby-Forum.com. Emails from the mailing list are posted to the forum and posts to the forum are emailed to the mailing list. I think it works pretty well.

Drupal is able to do this with ListHandler.

Just an idea. :)

spell checker in StyledEdit

Forum thread started by Malthus on Thu, 2007-05-10 23:50

When I first started using BeOS about 5 years ago I was very impressed with the spellchecker in BeMail. The way it works is a model of elegance. But I was surprised to see that Be hadn't included the same system in StyledEdit.

Now, I see it's working in the Haiku Mail app (if you import the dictionary files from BeOS).

Is there any reason why it cannot be adopted in the Haiku StyledEdit?

Of course, it would need some modification to allow for the different font colours supported by StyledEdit; it can't just assume black and display red for the flagged words...
