ITheora, a GPL php wrapper to skin the cortado java player. In addition to making it pretty, it adds a few nice buttons like play/stop, download, and so on. Instructions are in French, but the code package contains everything you need to set it up.

This makes embedding theora in webpages much nicer.

ITheora website (french, here's the babelfished one)

As the author claims: "You can tube, but I theora"

Have i say anything more ?

Unix permissions vs ACLs

Forum thread started by Clebin on Thu, 2007-02-01 02:01

What is the plan for permissions in R2?

When Haiku goes multi-user, I'd like to see ACLs as the only way to do permissions - command-line and GUI. I don't know what the engineering effort is, but I'd be disappointed if it took the easy route and became dependent on the archaic Owner/Group/Other. Haiku should be more modern than that.

Any info/comments would be appreciated (sorry if it's been raised before)

Keymapping Ideas

Forum thread started by Izomiac on Wed, 2007-01-31 07:29

I may be the last one to realize this, but I recently noticed that BeOS lets you enter things like ƒ®∑∫ by using the windows key. While it's a really nice feature I was just thinking that it could be expanded fairly easily in Haiku.

For instance, win+letter could enter lowercase Greek letters while shift+win+letter could enter uppercase Greek letters. Or perhaps someone who frequently types in another language might want to use accented letters but stick with a qwerty keyboard layout. So they may want win+e to be é instead of ´. A business person might even want ®¥© on their home row. So customization would also be nice.

Video Editing?

Forum thread started by phatpenguin on Tue, 2007-01-30 14:04

Hi,

I'm a n00b, used to use BeOS years ago before getting into Filmmaking and switching to Apple.

What I want to know is if anyone is working on a video editing package like Avid or Final Cut for Haiku, or on porting something from another platform, such as the low end versions of Avid?

If not, someone should, as I for one would use it, along with quite a lot of other end-users I could mention who need low cost video editing software.

LocalCooling-like power manager integration

Forum thread started by forart.it on Sat, 2007-01-27 08:59

I discovered an (unfortunally not so mutch popular - just ~27000 users) interesting power saving utility:
[quote="LocalCooling.com"]...it automatically optimizes your PC's power consumption by using a more effective power save mode. You will be able to see your savings in real-time translated to more evironmental terms such as how many trees and gallons of oil you have saved.

Local Cooling will:

* Cut your energy bills.
* Reduce the amount of Greenhouse Gas CO2 emissions as a result of your reduced PC power consumption.
* Give you full control over your power mode settings.
* Improve your overall computing experience and efficiency.
* Show you in detail how much you have saved since installing the software.
