File Shredding (Secure Delete) for Trash

Forum thread started by HaikuSecurity on Sat, 2006-07-29 00:00

Please implement a 'secure delete' feature for the trash bin, with prefs to allow for the number of times to iterate the shredding process.

I have already created a file shredder at http://www.haiku-security.com/ but it is just a unix-tool wrapper.

The Installation Process

Forum thread started by expensivelesbian on Mon, 2006-07-03 18:21

Hi all

I've just managed to get the new Ubuntu (Dapper Drake) to install in a dual boot on my main machine. I've still got a partition spare for Haiku, naturally.

I did a look around and I don't believe this topic has been broached yet, or at least, not in such obvious terms with regards the topic subject. I'm interested to know how the Haiku team thinks users should be able to try out, and then install the Haiku? Even though the Dapper Drake process was a significant step beyond what it was previously, it was not what I would consider a walk in the park. Ultimately, an install being a walk in the park is what's needed otherwise regualr joes will not bother. I nearly gave up on Dapper Drake, and I consider myself a bit more foolhardy than most.

DVR software and hardware support...

Forum thread started by ncallender on Thu, 2006-06-15 13:30

I'm a geek - let's face it. A lot of my friends as of late have been building their own homegrown DVR boxes. Some use windows, some use linux and MythTV. The whole problem with this is that Windows is going to be loaded down with DRM, and just reading through the linux stuff makes most people cringe. I see a real market growing for an easy to build DVR setup (maybe just a single box, or maybe a client/server setup like MythTV) that would be small, light, and very fast.

So, all we would need is the DVR software built on top of Haiku, and then hardware support for several boards (like the Via Epia) and video capture cards that would be supported by this - and then a lot of promotion. But, this may carve out that initial niche market that Haiku can thrive in.

Any takers - I've too much going on right now but I wanted to throw the idea out there in case others wanted to run with it.

Color Management System

Forum thread started by BeCome on Thu, 2006-06-15 06:04

Hi, guys
I think our Haiku should adopt a system-wide color management system(cms for short) .

To those who work primarily with graphic data, having a color-managed system is as important as having CVS is to a programmer

How about the LCMS (little color management system) , it is distributed under the MIT license agreement .

Need more developers...

Hello.

I think that is too slow... days more days... years more years... The comunity need a iso for testing.
Creo que es muy necesario liberar una iso para instalar Haiku con todos los componentes que estan terminados y en etapa de prueba y asi mantener el entusiasmo y creer que realmente algun dia podremos usar libremente este excelente OS.
