How to upgrade BeOS PE to Haiku?

Forum thread started by Luposian on Wed, 2005-06-29 04:06

Are there pre-built aspects of Haiku I can just download and install to replace portions of BeOS and slowly turn it into HaikOS (or Beku), as I wait for it to be fully transformed into Haiku!

If not, where is the best place I can go to be given step-by-step instructions on what to get and download and do, in order to slowly transform BeOS into the new Haiku?

More indexed attributes by default

As the subject line says, really: for example, keyword, caption and copyright for jpeg files; title, artist, genre, etc for MP3s.

Anyone who's played with attributes knows how powerful they can be, but it's a fiddly business setting up new ones and getting them indexed and working. Much easier if they are already active by default.

Tabs- Isn't there more we can do with them?

BeOS's most eyecatching aspect (for me) are the tabbed windows. However imho the tabs are a bit lifeless, whilst they are so full of potential. For example:

Making the tabs movable along the entire edge of the window:

Compressed Application Images (from klik point and klik software)

If you want to run a new application, you simply download a .cmg file, a compressed image file that contains the application together with everything that is needed to run it. Basically it is a compressed filesystem image containing an AppDir.

Graphic library and GUI

Forum thread started by Hiei on Mon, 2005-06-20 18:46

Hi all!

I'm wondering if should be possibile to port on Haiku the "Enlightenment Fountation Libraries (EFL)", and then use them as a base framework for the actual and an eventual new GUI (for the second and next releases). This library could be wrapped on standard BeOS API and next them could be improved to support all the thing EFL provide.
