Deskbar and Beos start button suggestion

Forum thread started by abda11ah on Mon, 2005-04-25 06:46

I suggest you to not put reduced windows at bottom of the start button like in Haiku's demo, but putting them on the top left corner on screen and other new reduced windows will be added at right side. Example of that screen :

Multiple menu item selection

Forum thread started by admin on Sun, 2005-04-24 06:17

Hello there!

Every so often you'd like to select several menu items and get slightly annoyed that the menu keeps closing with every click. Think of showing a bunch of email attributes (From, Subject, When, Status) in Tracker for example.

New kind of Deskbar, inspired by Windows old Taskbar

Forum thread started by Prognathous on Mon, 2005-04-18 13:23

One of the things I like about the pre-WinXP Taskbar is single click access to windows. The main problem with it, is that it doesn't scale well to a large number of open windows (that's probably why Microsoft copied the Deskbar in XP).

Tabbed interface for Tracker

Forum thread started by Prognathous on Mon, 2005-04-18 13:20

After getting used to tabs in Internet browsers, the next wave IMHO will be tabbed file managers. Total Commander for Windows (previously known as Windows Commander) already has this feature and it works very well, but its user interface is such a disaster otherwise that tabs can't really save the day.

Recycle Bin Twist

Forum thread started by skoe on Sat, 2005-04-16 02:26

I was thinking, why can't there be a recycle bin with eyes and a creature-like appearence, but still resembling a recycle bin. When you empty the trash, you hear a burping sound and a "Thank You For Recycling" Message.

System-wide thumbnailed bookmarks

Hi there!

Some days ago I thought about how to improve a GUI in a new, handy way. I have to admit that my ideas are inspired by OSX and a I've seen in the creative design forum. Here's what I think it should be:

Add a restriction to haiku's license.

Forum thread started by abda11ah on Wed, 2005-04-13 12:09

Today linux is an operating system very used. It used so much so that will become a standard like Windows. But there are in linux great disadvantages which unfortunately are established in the base even system (structure of the file-system, the kernel which includes drivers...). And also a serious problem with the license: Imagine thousands of programmers throughout the world devote to only one distribution, this single distribution linux would be an exceptional distro quality and perhaps even would be able to be competitive in front of Windows. In short my idea is of saying to Haiku-OS to not make this error and thus to prohibit in the license haiku any person from creating a distribution based on Haiku. In short to force very voluntary programmer to join the Haiku project and not to create them another distribution. Because that would divide the power of the community of programmers. And would generate distributions per hundreds and of course bad qualities. The license of haiku must be modified in this direction ! "Yes, if you give your support in programming to Haiku-OS. But NO you do not have the right of entirely duplicate the system to make another distribution of it!"
