Remove Vision logo from setup window?

Forum thread started by admin on Tue, 2013-05-14 18:14

Please consider removing the Vision logo from its setup window; it seems strangely incongruous with Haiku.

Tablet Pen/Pressure Sensitivity Drivers

I have a friend who'd seriously consider switching to Haiku if it worked with his Pen tablet.

You think this would be possible?

Clickarea of icons

Forum thread started by mlueft on Thu, 2013-05-02 10:17

Hi!

There is one annoying point to me about the icons.

To click on an icon in windows it's ok the click anywhere in the bounding box of the icon.
To select an icon in haiku you have to click anywhere on the grafic.
Clicking in empty space in the bounding box doesn't select the icon.

It annoys me every day. Is there some config to change this behaviour.

Software Install/Updating

Forum thread started by Sir Gan on Mon, 2013-04-29 15:28

Hey I'm new to Haiku, installed it this morning using a Nightly Build.
The idea of pervasive multithreading is what attracted me.

What I like:
• Definitely speedy
• Small foot print
• Most of it just works
• I also think the interface is pretty cool

Though I do wish there was an easier way to install software, OS updates, and drivers. My wifi adapter on my Macbook Pro simply isn't showing up.

Does there exist or is it in the works, an official application or terminal application to install packages and their dependencies?

Make an event better than Google Summer of Code and more inclusive

Forum thread started by marcoapc on Sat, 2013-04-27 03:31

We could create an event much better than Google Summer of Code 2013 chamandos the university students to develop solutions in groups, the groups would be composed of students from around the world and have a mentor to manage the situation. Someone propose?

Adding Haiku to GoodSearch?

Forum thread started by Kulluminatii on Wed, 2013-04-10 00:02

I e-mailed this suggestion a few weeks ago but I never got a reply. I'm guessing it never went through, so I've decided to post it here. I think with the recent news of Haiku not being selected for the GSoC this year, adding Haiku to GoodSearch makes even more sense.

http://www.goodsearch.com/

What is GoodSearch? GoodSearch is a search engine that donates 50% of its revenue from user searches to the user's non-profit organization of choice. A typical search using GS nets about 1 cent (excluding image searches). While that may not sound like much, imagine how many times you use a search engine each day. Multiply that by the number of Haiku users/followers that decide to use GoodSearch and in a few month's time that could result in a nice amount of money that could go towards furthering Haiku's development.

GoodSearch is not limited to just search donations. The other methods can net considerably more money. If you shop online (GS covers most major stores), up to 30% of your purchase can be donated to Haiku. There are also surveys, special offers, dining deals, travel deals, and even playing games can generate money that will be given to your non-profit organization of choice (hopefully it's Haiku!).

I know that simply donating is much easier and much less of a headache, but for some (me included) that simply isn't an option at this time. As much as I'd love to donate monthly to Haiku, student loans and various other necessities take priority. Still, I (like probably many others) would love to help in any way we can.

I've looked at Haiku, Inc.'s NPO status, and I am fairly confident they fall under the requirements to apply to GoodSearch. I'd like to hear what you guys think of this idea, and hopefully we'll hear from the board members of Haiku, Inc. as well.

Hi,

Today Linux realize that there are many disadvantages at using the actual X.org video server.
What about taking of advantages of the future X.org (wayland) under Haiku ?
