Trebuchet - Haiku's versions of Apple's Launchpad

Forum thread started by el.tigre.20 on Sun, 2012-02-19 08:14

Hello, as the subject like clearly states, this is my idea/design for a mockup of Apples' "Lauchpad" for Haiku. This is all just conceptual and will probably never be added to Haiku unless enough feedback warrants me to contact Haiku.

Welcome to Trebuchet, a new and fresh way of looking and launching apps in Haiku.

I thought that it would be really neat if Haiku had something like Apple's Launchpad. I know that it is risky mixing features of one OS and putting it in another, but I thought that it would be a fun new way of looking at and accessing apps. Of course it does not make anything easier, but it does bring a fresh, fast new way for viewers. I stuck to typical Haiku designs, and I think it turned out rather well...

Also, Trebuchet can be accessed one of two ways:

from the Haiku Menu: menu > applications > Trebuchet

From the desktop: A gesture or field marker could be set as a way of activating Trebuchet view.

If not launched from the menu, Trebuchet will appear in the centre of the screen in it's respective window (excluding the yellow taskbar which is usually seen on the top of windows).

I hope you all like it!

My Best Haiku Design So Far

Forum thread started by el.tigre.20 on Tue, 2012-02-07 05:35

So ladies and gentlemen, I've spent numerous hours putting this together. Tell me what you think.

Here are two pictures the first is of the GUI itself and the second is the first but with the default Haiku background color.

So the look I was aiming for was sophistication meets classic. So i've added some darker softer blues to the menu, and some stylish scrolling bars. Also, an updated copy/paste metre, although I think I could do a bit more work with the progress bar... and the calculator was just something I added, changed and loved. So take a look, and feel free to tell me what you like, what you don't like, and perhaps what I could change!

Cheers!

Haiku Gui concept 'Parallel Menu View'

Forum thread started by el.tigre.20 on Fri, 2012-02-03 19:22

This is the first in a series of Haiku GUI designs that I plan on doing.

This is what I call the 'Parallel Menu View'

http://master-of-design.deviantart.com/#/d4oiq47

The menu, instead of opening like the old traditional menu (as seen in OS's like WIN95) has an updated look. The menu opens smoothly to the left. Once a subfolder is selected (in this example I chose the Applications folder) another menu smoothly opens again to the left. The Icons seen in the Parallel Menu are just a few, and scrolling up and down lets users access all Application launchers. Once cursor hovers over icons, arrows at the top and bottom would appear to indicate that there are more icons available to choose from.

There would be a Settings program that would allow the user to shrink the icon size to fit more Icons on the second menu, add content to first menu, tweak font size. However the background color of menu would stay at a constant to ensure that the Haiku design was kept at it's standard.

There is a lot of space in the first parallel menu, but folders can be added and of course once selected would open up the second parallel menu thus displaying the contents.

Tell me what you think. This is based on the new folder display from Mac OS X Lion. But the design I used really stays true to Haiku and it really doesn't take away from the classic "Haiku-look" very much.

Full-screen

Forum thread started by goldencut on Thu, 2011-10-13 19:37

Hi,

Am I the only one who is REALLY annoyed by the way some apps do full-screen? I mean the placement of the "exit full-screen"-button on the far upper right. That's where all BeOS-people keep the deskbar, activated by mouse-in-corner. Every time I try to exit full-screen mode in some of those new apps my deskbar pops up and covers the button. So I have to pull mouse back and slowly sneak in on the button. IMHO that's bad UI design and should be changed.

Hello,

have anyone fun to make a Haiku compatible icon for my html editor WebConcept Creator?

http://haikuware.com/directory/view-details/internet-network/web-develop...

Something like this BMP: http://www.lelldorin.de/beos/apps/muster_icon.bmp

This will be funny :-)
