Covergen: online CD/DVD cover generator script

Forum thread started by forart.it on Sun, 2009-06-21 10:49

This is a simple PHP script that uses FPDF to make CD and DVD covers on A4/Letter sheets (at the moment).

It's not yet finished (of course), btw basic functions such as background resizing/positioning and cut&bend lines drawings works.

Check it out:

http://www.forart.it/covergen/cover.php?pagina=A4&copertina=DVD&remoto=http://www.beos.tarman.pl/grafika/konkurs1/skwarna_haiku7.jpg

Parameters explaination:

  1. pagina - means the sheet type (A4 or Letter);
  2. copertina - means the cover type (CD or DVD);
  3. remoto - is the absolute path of the image you wanna use;

Note that the script is still in alpha stage, so many functions are not yet implemented (different images for front and rear sides) or will change.

Feedbacks are - of course - welcomed.

Last but not least, the script is CC BY-NC-SA licensed, so source code is available, if you need.

Hope that helps, or at least inspires !

Start-up sounds

Hello, I've come up with two start-up sounds that might be of interest. What do you think?

Start-up v1

Start-up v2

These are ogg files.

Theme suggestions

Forum thread started by _SoulHunter_ on Mon, 2009-02-02 00:12

Hello everyone,

I've been around for quite a while in order to help improving Haiku in some manner but I didn't have enough time to contribute even I think I've got some ideas about GUI design.

Anyway, today I could finish something I started months ago on mspaint (yes you're reading right) with rendering speed in mind and no shiny look (which hurts my eyes and bring me headache), so I decided then to use only lines and plain colors for the window.

I got it finished with photoshop (sorry) but added some gradients/transparent pixels here and there just to see how it would look. I think that this theme would still be rendered in about four cpu cycles even with a Pentium I 75Mhz (the one labeled "humor inside") and 8MB of RAM .

Here are some of the ideas that can make the theme/Haiku identity :

- The focused window is the one with shadow
- The shadow has no blurry border so it renders fast even with non-optimized graphic drivers.
- The shadow's transparency can be set to 0 (none) or 100% (completely black shadow)
- The virtual desktops have slightly different backgrounds (that's what I usually do)
- I changed the default leaf because it can be mistaken to be a "feather"
- of course the scrollbars are disabled

here is the background with different shade of blue, the maple leaf is "supposed" to mimic the 3D perspective of Be icons (the ones that can't say how much they have been stolen).

So I'm waiting for any comment or suggestion

It would be really great to have something clean, modern, understandable like SharpE:

Haiku UI look patch

Forum thread started by admin on Mon, 2008-12-22 12:01

Inspired by this mockup, I started to implement something similar as code. Modifying the app_server and InterfaceKit code slightly, I came to the following intermediate result:

The patch is not quite finished, I just changed the drawing code of a few controls (window decorations, menus, scroll bars, buttons), and the look is not perfect yet, but I thought I should gather some feedback from you before I continue coding. The patch (against Haiku r28819) can be found here.

My Haiku Artwork

Forum thread started by smartboyathome on Sat, 2008-12-20 02:49

I made a wallpaper for Haiku based on what it represents to me. I really think that Haiku should go with a Yellow/Green combo, as that looks very nice and can't really be confused with other OSes. I made it partly because I was going to try to create a mockup, and needed an SVG wallpaper. If I ever get done with that mockup, I will post it here.

Here is a link to the wallpaper.

I haven't used Haiku, but from what i have seen, this is my atempt to make Haiku R2 compitable to other OSs when released

I call it The Golu (The haiku Button ). This Golu can be moved to any dam place in the entire desktop like this:

http://ritrup.deviantart.com/art/Haki-OS-R2-Look-Haiku-Golu-1-106478230
http://ritrup.deviantart.com/art/Haki-OS-R2-Look-Haiku-Golu-2-106479238
http://ritrup.deviantart.com/art/Haki-OS-R2-Look-Haiku-Golu-3-106479290
http://ritrup.deviantart.com/art/Haki-OS-R2-Look-Haiku-Golu-4-106479387

Once you click on the Golu it animates into action with clock, internet, running applications, help, shut down etc. The one which is on top becomes big on the Golu ( you can select any running application through this Golu and it will pop out in front )

When you Click on any of the tab it pops that window like this:

http://ritrup.deviantart.com/art/Haki-OS-R2-Look-Haiku-Golu-6-106479441

Every thing is integrated in the Golu itself, like the sound control:

I REALLY DON'T KNOW HOW WILL IT GET INTEGRATED IN OS, BUT HEY IMPOSSIBLE IS NOTHING ;)
