Hello everyone,
I've been around for quite a while in order to help improving Haiku in some manner but I didn't have enough time to contribute even I think I've got some ideas about GUI design.
Anyway, today I could finish something I started months ago on mspaint (yes you're reading right) with rendering speed in mind and no shiny look (which hurts my eyes and bring me headache), so I decided then to use only lines and plain colors for the window.
I got it finished with photoshop (sorry) but added some gradients/transparent pixels here and there just to see how it would look. I think that this theme would still be rendered in about four cpu cycles even with a Pentium I 75Mhz (the one labeled "humor inside") and 8MB of RAM .
Here are some of the ideas that can make the theme/Haiku identity :
- The focused window is the one with shadow
- The shadow has no blurry border so it renders fast even with non-optimized graphic drivers.
- The shadow's transparency can be set to 0 (none) or 100% (completely black shadow)
- The virtual desktops have slightly different backgrounds (that's what I usually do)
- I changed the default leaf because it can be mistaken to be a "feather"
- of course the scrollbars are disabled

here is the background with different shade of blue, the maple leaf is "supposed" to mimic the 3D perspective of Be icons (the ones that can't say how much they have been stolen).

So I'm waiting for any comment or suggestion
