Boston and West Texas.

Forum thread started by ddavid123 on Thu, 2013-04-18 17:40

Much has happened in the U.S. this week! First a bombing durring a Boston marathon! Several people killed and even more injured. Second, and much more close to home, a massive explosion at a fertilizer plant in the town of West, Texas! The town of West Texas is just north of Waco and only twenty miles away from my house (as the crow flies). The blast happened at about 7:50 PM local time, and at 7:52 PM I felt and heard the blast at my house!

The blast was so powerful that my house shook terribly, and was so loud I though it happened next door! The blast was so powerfull it registered a 2.1 on the Richter scale! Houses in a four block radius of the plant was leveled and many more severly damaged and/or on fire! A nursing home and a middle school took damage and the nursing home evacuated all of its residents to a safer location. Everyone living in West were ordered to evacuate for fear of a secondary explosion.

Please keep the people of Boston and West in your thoughts and prayers!

FreeBSD and Haiku

Forum thread started by macsnafu on Sun, 2013-04-14 23:16

Well, I was planning to do a FreeBSD installation this weekend, but I was having so much fun working with Haiku and going through the HaikuWare software that I ran out of time--real life and work don't leave me as much free time as I'd like to have. And sleep...gotta sleep every now and then, too!

Darn! The rules say no religion or politics. I'd better not start anything.

I am a Web Developer in love with BeOS/Haiku, and I need vim. I tried:

installoptionalpackage -a vim

and it didn't work, saying:

... no packages installed

bla, bla, bla. I tried for a couple hours, doing different things, nothing worked.

I'm packing to move and just came across a BeOS Preview Release CD and Metrowerks Codewarrior CD for BeOS CD pack from 1997. It ran on Powermacs with Motorola processors. Will mail it to the first interested person for free.

Minecraft on Haiku?

Forum thread started by Blublaze94 on Tue, 2012-11-20 12:33

Thanks to Hamish, I now have faith that maybe one day, simple things like this will be possible!

Just thought someone out there might like this and get inspired from it. Though the Minecraft launcher does run on Haiku through the OpenJDK port, it will not go past the login phase.

This is simply a post to encourage more great work like this and to show that with enough effort, anything is possible.
