So I got bored while waiting for Haiku to mature

So I decided to make my Xubuntu installation look as much like Haiku/BeOS as possible. How'd I do?

MAUI Os ?

Forum thread started by lxstoian on Sat, 2012-09-15 17:55

I happened to stumble over this very interesting open source os that plans to be built on top of the Linux kernel + QT5. Finally someone doing something bloody different with the kernel for once... but that's not the point. The main developer list's BeOS as his main inspiration and also mentions HAIKU. From what I read he tried to port the HAIKU's user space to run on top of the Linux kernel. That was latter dropped in favor of QT5. Seem's that HAIKU and MAUI share quite allot when it comes to the general development philosophy , especially considering that QT might become the default for HAIKU R2.

Did anyone else knew about this project? I'm curios if Luigi Fiorini ( dev of MAUI ) ever contacted HAIKU in any way.

time to change …

not in a technical point of view, but in an ethical and political point of view:

Really Random - IBM OS/2 Warp 4.5

Forum thread started by el.tigre.20 on Tue, 2012-07-24 17:12

So I had some spare-time on my hands, so I found some files, and built IBM's OS/2 Warp 4.5. It runs in Virtualbox with 512MB of RAM, and 2GB of storage space...

So, I think (IMHO) that OS/2 Warp 4.5 is brilliant. Windows was just working on 3.1, and OS/2 already had multitasking, and a plethora of handy software - including a web browser!

Here is a picture of it running

I hope you all like it! Random, I know..... but brings back good memories, and it's just plain fun to run old OS's! :D

cheers

First time trying out Haiku

Forum thread started by DiscipleOfDante on Fri, 2012-01-20 19:06

Okay I am really interested in Haiku. I have heard excellent things about this, even though it is still in alpha. I hoping to have a good experience with the live-cd and if I do I will probably go to using it instead of my current Linux distribution. I was hoping just for some strong points of the OS aside from what I have read in reviews and some useful links, tutorials, things like that.

I need some help on how to install the Qemu emulator, I am a beginner at this!

Forum thread started by jordanllgg50 on Sat, 2012-01-07 20:45

Hi there. I am having some trouble installing Qemu. I would really like to know on how to install this, so I can run this with another operating system. An example would be Windows 7. Like I totally do not understand on how to use this emulator, because I am really illiterate at all of this stuff. So please help me out here, and just let me know on how to install this Qemu emulator, with no problems. Then I will be much happier for sure. I already got it installed, but I have like no idea on what to do from this point on. Because like the whole installation is really complex and hard to set for me, really. So can you make it easier for me, and send me some screenshots on how to do this, also with an easy guide or tutorial?

Because then this will make the process much easier to understand. And then I will have this installation all set and completed that way. So this way, I won't be as frustrated setting up this emulator at all. Well anyway, so please get back to me as soon as possible on this. And explain on how to do this for me, the easy way step-by-step. Because I am just a beginner at this. So that's all I really want to know from you, right there. So just send me some screenshots, and also an easy tutorial on this, to make my life a lot easier. So that's all I want from you. So please get back to me soon on this issue. I would like this solved as soon as possible. So thank you very much!
